Last Sunday, flags from 12 nations flew high as the M1 Asian Netball Championships 2018 drew to a close. Amongst these flags, our very own had plenty of reason to fly high and proud as our team came in overall second, qualifying Singapore for next year’s Netball World Cup.
It was certainly no easy feat as Team Singapore had to face the undefeated Sri Lankan team during the finals. The exciting match concluded with a score of 50 – 69 in Sri Lanka’s favour. Coming in 3rd place was Malaysia.
This would mark the 8th time in a row that the top three positions were held by Singapore, Malaysia, and Sri Lanka since 1997.
Held from 1 – 9 September at the OCBC Arena, this year’s biennial event saw the largest number of participating teams since it’s inception in 1985. While the bleachers rang out cheers in many tongues, the common language of sport reverberated the courts throughout the 9 days.
